Ubuntu 8.04 Laptop Heat - Solved!

I recently reported that my laptop would get to extreme temperatures running the latest offering from Canonical. Just standing idle the CPU temp would be soaring at 50-60 degrees and under the most menial loads it would rocket to the mid 70’s.
After much searching around on the forums, I managed to come up with this fix. I’m not sure how it works, but I now get idle temps of around 45 degrees and under load, approximately lower 50’s! Here it is:
